Writing a business plan is just half a battle won. The next step is presenting your idea to a panel of potential investors. Delivering of a presentation may create intimidation see it as a chance for you to engage with the investors so you can create excitement and give clear answers to questions they may have.
Tips on a winning presentation:
· Prepare
Give yourself enough time to prepare, read through your business plan and you can even try to practice in front of family, friends or the mirror.
· Know what you talking about
Put yourself in the shoes of the investor, explain every aspect, every little detail should be dissected.
· Know who you talking to
Do a proper research on the panel of investors, understand their line of work. This can help you know what it is they need from you.
· Simplicity
Keep the presentation clean, short, simple and just keep them interested.
· Feedback
Once you are done presenting, listen to what the panel of investors have to say and don’t be emotional but rather take it as constructive criticism. Not all reactions will be positive, so be ready to take that in.
· Network
Use this as a chance to network and give away contact details, if they are not interested they might direct you to someone they think is more suitable for your venture.
Not everyone succeeds in their first attempt in getting investors, so do not despair if your first presentation does not work out. Rather use that as a building block and a learning curve. Ask the investors what their reason is for not being interested in your business. They will have advice that will work for your next attempt.
